//MINERALOGY LABORATORY

The objective of modal analysis is to determine the relative proportions of liberated and locked particles for each mineral in the sample. This data is then used to predict, or explain, the subsequent behavior of the various classes of mineral particles, in real or simulated mineral processing operations.

QEMSCAN

QEMSCAN® is the newest, most powerful process mineralogical instrument currently available in the minerals industry. Consisting of a base scanning electron microscope, equipped with four light element energy dispersive X-ray detectors, a micro-analyser and an electronic processing unit designed by Intellection, it is a powerful automated system that can acquire and process vast amounts of chemical, textural and liberation data. Using the QEMSCAN® G&T can perform: Particle Mineral Analysis (PMA), which analyzes the size by size flotation performance of minerals over difference size fractions. Bulk Mineral Analysis with Liberation (BMAL) provides mineral content data and liberation estimates for the important minerals in the sample. This analysis is performed on unsized samples and is less accurate than a full modal. Bulk Mineral Analysis (BMA) provides estimates of mineral content on unsized samples.

Using the Automated Digital Imaging System (ADIS) G&T are able to perform sparse mineral searches on target minerals such as gold. The principal advantage of the system is the ability to rapidly polish sections for minerals as a rate of between 200 and 500 particles per second. The system records the number of grains observed in the entire polished section and the precise location of each target mineral.
