// STEWART GROUP INCREASES CANADIAN OPERATION
Stewart Group, has completed a $C1.1 million investment programme at its newly acquired GTMET Mineralogy & Metallurgy facility in British Columbia, Canada.
The investment at G&T Metallurgical Services Ltd (GTMET) facility will increase the capacity of the laboratory services, and provide customers with industry leading 24 hour turnaround times.

The completion of the investment programme follows the acquisition of GTMET by Stewart Group at the beginning of 2011 and is part of the company’s drive to become world leaders in the Minerals inspection and testing market. Through the investment, a new assay laboratory has been introduced to enable the Mineralogy & Metallurgy division to meet the strong rising demand for metallurgical testing and consulting services over the next three years, and beyond.
Tom Shouldice, Stewart Group’s managing director of Mineralogy & Metallurgy and President of GTMET Group, comments: “This investment is part of our programme of continuous improvement that is placing Stewart Group as one of the world’s leading providers of high quality mineralogy and metallurgical testing and consulting services. Turnaround times are of critical importance for our clients and we are investing to ensure that these times are continually improved, without compromising on high standards of technical services.”
“Not only does this new facility help to improve our capacity, but gives us the ability to increase our capabilities over the coming years, giving us an edge over our competitors – not just in the region, but across the globe.”
Stewart Group’s GTMET operation employs 75 staff at its state-of-the-art facility and has undertaken projects across the world with particular prominence in North, Central and South America, and Australasia. The facility has a strong worldwide reputation through its expertise in precious and base metals, and its pioneering mineralogy capability with QEMSCAN™ applications, which accelerates the processes of mineral identification.
